Passion for tobogganing: Andreas Pflieger is now giving courses in this sport at Blomberg.

There has recently been a new offer at Blomberg.

Toboggan instructor Andreas Pflieger (59) offers courses at his school “Kufenreich”.

Wackersberg – It snowed again in the Tölzer Land.

There are therefore ideal conditions for sledging on Blomberg this weekend.

Now you can easily get on a toboggan and whiz down the slope without much prior knowledge.

From now on there is also the opportunity to approach this sport in a much more systematic and professional manner: Andreas Pflieger is offering tobogganing courses at Blomberg for the first time.

“The first of its kind in the Oberland”: Blomberg offers tobogganing courses

“The toboggan school is not only the first of its kind in the Oberland, but also a groundbreaking facility that combines traditional tobogganing with modern teaching methods and passion,” emphasizes Blombergbahn spokeswoman Regina Heider.

“Anyone like me who grew up in the Alpine region and was on a sleigh as a small child probably doesn’t necessarily need a course like this,” admits Andreas Pflieger, who is celebrating his premiere with his “Kufenreich toboggan school” on Blomberg this Saturday.

His course is intended more for those guests who are getting on a toboggan for the first time, who are perhaps not yet very familiar with the element of snow and who approach the whole thing with the appropriate “respect”.

These could be holidaymakers from the Arab or Asian region, for example.

Toboggan courses on Blomberg only in groups of five to six participants

Andreas Pflieger's tobogganing course gets off to a correspondingly gentle start, as the 59-year-old describes.

First, you slide around a bit in the lower area of the mini lift to gain confidence in yourself and the sports equipment.

Later we go to the lower part of the toboggan run at the middle station of the Blombergbahn.

“Then you can really try out your skills,” says Pflieger.

You learn from him how to sit correctly on the toboggan, how to take turns and control your vehicle by shifting your weight.

“At the end we do a little race if the participants want it, or do a slalom to practice cornering skills.” According to the course leader, the four hours always “fly by”.

The Munich-based company does not offer individual lessons.

A group of five to six, a maximum of eight or nine people must come together.

An adult then pays 80 euros for the course, children pay half.

In addition to a hot drink, the price also includes a professional sports toboggan rental.

Pflieger assures us that the difference between this sports equipment and simpler equipment is clearly noticeable.

“It has better runners and can be controlled more precisely,” says the professional.

“All you have to do is twitch your thigh and the toboggan moves the way you want.” You can also slow down such a toboggan within a few meters.

“This is also a safety aspect.”

Toboggan instructor appeals: “You need normal mountain boots with strong soles”

Pflieger warns that anyone who wants to take part in the course should not wear sneakers or even shoes with leather soles.

“You need normal mountain boots with sturdy soles.” He recommends a helmet, especially for children.

According to him, the equipment also includes waterproof and sturdy snowboard or ski gloves “that go up a long way” because you get your hands in the snow when cornering.

He also recommends ski goggles, otherwise “normal winter clothing” is sufficient.

Pflieger, who grew up in Berchtesgadener Land, has been tobogganing since he was a child.

When he later moved to Munich with his wife after spending time abroad, he discovered this sport again.

If you want, tobogganing offers a thrill and adrenaline.

What fascinates him about it?

“If you want, tobogganing offers a thrill and adrenaline,” he says – just like it used to be in the now closed upper part of the toboggan run on Blomberg with the infamous “Tölzer Kurve”.

“But you can also drive through the winter landscape in a relaxed and contemplative way,” says the 59-year-old.

“And it’s completely silent, that’s really beautiful.” There’s something “primal” about tobogganing.

And compared to skiing, it is an inexpensive and relatively safe sport.

Pflieger runs the toboggan school part-time.

He earns his living primarily as a lawyer.

His specialty: legal disputes following ski accidents.
