The decision to send the Munich “crime scene” investigators into retirement is apparently not just based on age.

Munich – A few days ago, Bayerischer Rundfunk announced that the last “Tatort” episodes with Munich commissioners Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr would be shown in 2025.

The actors Miroslav Nemec (69) and Udo Wachtveitl (64) are quitting after 35 years and 100 cases.

A decision that provokes different reactions from fans.

“Crime Scene”: The change in investigators also has financial reasons

On the Instagram page “wiewardertatort”, many of them are simply sad, but many are also understanding that they are retiring given their age.

But now “Bild” reports that it is apparently not just due to age that the popular investigative duo is being sent into retirement.

It is also said to have been a financial decision, as production costs in the TV sector have apparently increased significantly in recent years.

But the “crime scene” was always able to be cleared away – like on January 7th.

The production budget for a “crime scene” increased from 1.395 million euros to 1.935 million euros compared to 2017 due to higher wages, higher energy costs and Corona measures.

Therefore, unknown actors who cost less should now be used.

But who will follow in Nemec and Wachtveitl’s footsteps at “Tatort”?

“Tatort”: ARD coordinator Schönenborn defends strategy

A strategy that, according to ARD coordinator for information, fiction and entertainment Jörg Schönenborn (59), is working, as he told “Bild”: “The renewed record market share last year combined with high media library views shows that the mix is right – from familiar ones and new actors and themes – and withstands the high demands of the audience.” However, there are different reasons for which investigative teams said goodbye.

However, the old investigators can still be seen at the moment and achieved the highest ratings last year.

It remains to be seen whether this will continue to be the case when we see more and more unknown actors.

Ultimately, it will probably depend on whether the new faces manage to become as popular as their predecessors over time.

The Munich cult investigators will still break a historic mark by then.
