The 60th Munich Security Conference (MSC) from February 16th to 18th in Munich is intended to bring small diplomatic initiatives to key areas of conflict in the world.

In addition, the chairman of the MSC, Christoph Heusgen, hopes for a revival of the Weimar Triangle with the visit of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and the new Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“I think it is very important that we expand the German-French pair again to include Poland as the largest country in Eastern Europe.

If that succeeds, that would be very nice.

The invitation is standing,” said Heusgen in an interview for Table.Today, the new podcast from Table.Media.

“In good times and bad, we try to make a contribution to making the world safer by bringing politicians, military and civil society together so that they can find out where there is a silver lining on the horizon through discussion,” says Heusgen.

The most important geopolitical conflicts will be discussed on the various stages of the MSC.

“Our moderators of the individual panels should find out where to start and where a way out of a tricky situation could be.”

Focus on Haiti

Heusgen expects that, among others, the chief foreign policy advisor of the Central Committee of the Communist Party in China, Wang Yi, US Vice President Kamala Harris and the leading heads of state and government from Africa and Europe will come.

In addition, a focus will be placed on the South American crisis state of Haiti and representatives from the global south will be placed at the center of many panels and discussions.

“We are not just concerned with Ukraine or the transatlantic relationship.

We see the challenges of the global south.”

Heusgen also expects a clear commitment to support Ukraine from this year's conference.

“I hope that the message will be reinforced: We support Ukraine as long as it takes.

Then we have also made a contribution to a peace agreement.” Peace negotiations could only be interesting for Putin if he feels that the West and Europe continue to clearly stand behind Ukraine.
