Wolfgang Schäuble died at the end of December after a long illness.
To honor the German politician, an act of mourning will take place in the Bundestag.
Berlin - It's been around three weeks since the news of Wolfgang Schäuble's death shocked more than just politics.
Now we will once again think about his person, his commitment to numerous political offices and his work.
An act of mourning has been arranged for Monday, January 22nd in the plenary hall of the Reichstag building in Berlin.
The former President of Parliament, Federal Minister and longest-serving member of the Bundestag died in Offenburg on December 26, 2023 at the age of 81.
At the beginning of January, the family and companions said goodbye to the CDU politician at a funeral service in Offenburg.
Schäuble will be honored in the Bundestag on Monday - with numerous guests and television in attendance.
The
SWR
will report live from the Bundestag in a “SWR Extra” from 2:53 p.m. to around 4 p.m., as the media authority announces.

Guests of honor from home and abroad: Many want to pay tribute to Wolfgang Schäuble
“Wolfgang Schäuble was a stroke of luck for German history,” wrote Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in a condolence message to Schäuble’s wife.
The political commitment of the late Christian Democrat in a wide variety of offices is probably also a reason why Steinmeier ordered a state act of mourning.
Such an event can only be called by a Federal President.
This is usually the case in order to give due recognition to high representatives.
Numerous guests from home and abroad are expected in Berlin on Monday.
In addition to Schäuble's family and the head of state, French President Emmanuel Macron is also expected, according to
Stern
information.
Schäuble's former party colleague and former Chancellor Angela Merkel are said to have also agreed to come, as did Federal Council President Manuela Schwesig, as the Federal Council announced.
Farewell to Schäuble: an act of mourning on a special date
Before the guests in the Bundestag commemorate the former CDU parliamentary group leader, a funeral service will take place in the Berlin Cathedral at 1 p.m.
This will be led by Bishop Kirsten Fehrs, acting chairwoman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany.
According to the German Bundestag's announcement, the state ceremony will begin at 3 p.m. with welcoming words from Bundestag President Bärbel Bas.

Further speeches will be made by CDU party leader Friedrich Merz and President Macron, who traveled from France.
The memorial hour will be accompanied by music and will end with the national anthem.
Afterwards there will be a funeral reception in the Reichstag building.
The date of the state mourning ceremony for Schäuble has a special feature.
January 22nd is the anniversary of the signing of the Élysée Treaty and the starting signal for the friendly bond between Germany and France.
It is no coincidence that Schäuble is being commemorated on this day, as the late politician played a role in the friendship between the two countries.
