The close connection with the USA brings many Israelis to conduct business or academic relations with the land of endless possibilities. But although nowadays it is very easy to connect with the business and cultural culture in the USA, still, in order to do so one must act in accordance with the American foreign law.
We must obtain the necessary approvals for this and act in accordance with the law.
Prof. Avi Moses Carmel, is an expert in American foreign law and he helps many Israelis to take this step.
Prof. Carmel was born in Israel and spent his childhood and teenage years in Philadelphia together with his parents.
The field of foreign law is an integral part of Prof. Carmel's passion.
"I've always been drawn to this field," he says, "I've always had a fondness for corporate law, for investments, it's a field that's always been a part of me."
Indeed, Prof. Carmel, who has a doctorate in law and a master's degree in business administration, has a deep understanding of the contents that to many of us sound like Chinese.
"At our office," he adds, "we assist Israelis in obtaining work visas, in fact in everything related to the law, we specialize in American foreign law. Whether that means setting up companies, investments, American income tax, social security, all American administrative issues - we We handle them, including wills, inheritances, guardianships and many other issues. In fact, we also receive criminal proceedings, people who have found themselves in trouble with American law, who have committed a crime."
The uniqueness of Prof. Carmel is in his multiculturalism - he is on the one hand completely Israeli and on the other hand a first class American.
"I live these two cultures at the same time, I am both. This connection is reflected both in culture, in law and in law, and of course in language - both languages are like a mother tongue for me and the transition between one and the other has become completely automatic."

What characterizes the customers who come to your office?
Prof. Carmel: "The need for the services of a lawyer specializing in American law is necessary both for Israeli citizens with interests in the United States, and for American non-residents who also hold Israeli citizenship or work in Israel at various levels. We provide legal services in both of these sectors. Our uniqueness is in the seam between Israeli law and American law, both at the federal level and at the individual state level in the USA."
Prof. Carmel's office deals, among other things, with legal aspects of taxation law, criminal law, real estate law, family law law, tort law law, international law and commercial-civil law. What is the complexity in this area of American foreign law?
Prof. Carmel: "The relationship between Israel and the United States is definitely a unique relationship of strong friendship between two countries. A relationship of business, security, political cooperation. Of course, the relationship between the two countries leads to cooperation in trade, investments, and so on. We already understand that it is important to continue and strengthen the warm relationship between the two countries. At the same time, it is important to understand that these are two countries that each have their own set of laws and legal system, and the culture itself, including the corporate culture, is different between Israel and the United States.
We do not want to spoil these relations and continue to tighten them, therefore we must know on the one hand the legal system of each country and on the other hand, increase cooperation, this is the complexity, this is the uniqueness, this is the basis of our work and what we like to do."
Professor Avi Mozes Carmel A lawyer and jurist with more than three decades of experience. He has experience as a lawyer, mediator and arbitrator. He is a senior research fellow at the Center for Conflict Management and Resolution that belongs to the University System of the State of Maryland in the USA.
In the past, he served as a dean at the University of Phoenix and is a professor of tomorrow's methods for crisis and conflict management and recovery and business law.
