The government approved today (Sunday) the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture, Avi Dichter, to increase the quota of foreign workers in the agriculture sector by an additional 10,000 workers.
The work of about 25,000 Palestinians in agriculture stopped with the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, and since then the industry has suffered from a severe shortage of working hands throughout the country - from the north, through the Arabah to the south.
This difficult problem has delayed and prevented the farmers from continuing to produce what is needed for the benefit of the food security of the citizens of Israel, therefore the government's decision will make it possible to permanently employ another 10,000 foreign workers in agriculture.
In the immediate term, this addition will lead to continued growth and prosperity of Israeli agriculture, and will provide an answer to the plight of farmers who urgently need working hands.

With the government's approval, the agriculture sector is now expected to expand by almost 20 thousand foreign workers - after only a few months ago, at the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture, an increase of 9,000 foreign workers was approved for the sector - to more than 50 thousand foreign workers in Israeli agriculture.
In response to the government's approval, the Israel Farmers' Association welcomed "the decision to add another 10,000 foreign workers to the agricultural sector - a decision that came after our hard work in front of the decision makers. This is a significant step that can help Israeli farmers, who still suffer from a severe shortage of working hands. We hope that the government ministries will promote the allocation of workers in the fastest procedure, and the bureaucratic processes will be shortened as much as possible."
