The Carabinieri of the Napoli Stella operational unit arrested a 19-year-old from Ponticelli already known to the police as a crime suspect.
The young man, together with an accomplice who is still being identified, is considered to be seriously suspected of a robbery committed in Piazza Garibaldi against a 30-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk.
The 19-year-old was driving a scooter and the passenger grabbed the victim's cell phone who, in an attempt to hold it, was dragged for several meters.
The two robbers then fled, also taking advantage of the pedestrian areas of the square.
The soldiers, in transit with an unmarked car, chased the two to the Forcella district where they were forced to abandon the scooter.
Their traces were lost but a fingerprint detected on the vehicle's odometer and the viewing of video surveillance images allowed the police to identify one of the two.
He was identified and detained pending the validation hearing.
Shortly after, the Carabinieri of the Napoli Stella Operations Unit also arrested the second robber as a crime suspect.
This is a 48-year-old domiciled in Milan, already known to the police.
This is the passenger of the scooter, the one who would have snatched the phone from the victim's hands.
He will be charged with complicity in improper robbery.
