Geltendorf/Eresing – From this year onwards, the people of Geltendorf and Eresing will have to dig significantly deeper into their pockets for wastewater disposal.

The sewer fees were increased from 2.89 euros to 4.96 euros per cubic meter.

If rainwater is also discharged, 5.51 euros per cubic meter of wastewater will be charged.

There is also an annual basic fee of 72 euros for the meter.

The new fee rates were decided in mid-December by the Geltendorf-Eresing Wastewater Association (AZV).

In future, advance payments will be made quarterly instead of three times a year.

Missed raise

In recent years, the AZV's income has no longer been sufficient to cover the increased expenses - especially personnel, energy and administrative costs - says the association's chairman and Geltendorf mayor Robert Sedlmayr.

“The sewage fees should have been raised for many years.” Instead, the AZV was subsidized by the municipalities through levies.

The new fees apply for the years 2024 and 2025. After that, a further increase is likely to be due, because the wastewater association is facing significant investments in the renovation of the 56-kilometer-long sewer network, some of which are over 35 years old.

Already in 2007, a large-scale camera survey showed significant damage to the sewer network, said Sedlmayr.

No renovation was started at that time.

As a result, the damage became even greater, as a new inspection last year showed.

“The engineering firm commissioned presented the absolutely necessary measures at the association meeting in December,” reports Sedlmayr.

“This work will now be carried out over several years.

This also leads to increased ongoing expenses for the special purpose association.”

Expand sewage treatment plant

Another major project is already underway: the expansion of the association sewage treatment plant for almost ten million euros.

The measure is also passed on to consumers via the wastewater fee.
