Brahim Aouissaoui, a 24-year-old Tunisian, will appear before the specially constituted Paris Assize Court for “assassinations and attempted assassinations in connection with a terrorist enterprise”.

He will answer for the acts committed on the morning of October 29, 2020, a knife attack which left three people dead in the Nice basilica, located in the city center, on avenue Jean-Médecin.

Two faithful, Nadine Devillers, 60 years old, and Simone Barreto Silva, 44 years old, had succumbed to their injuries, as well as the sacristan Vincent Loquès, 54 years old.

Brandishing his weapon, the man shouted “

Allah Akbar

”.

His gesture was not claimed by the jihadist groups, who nevertheless welcomed it.

A municipal police brigade managed to neutralize the individual, who was seriously injured by bullets.

No memories

When he woke up in the hospital and after surgical interventions, Brahim Aouissaoui explained that he had no memory of such an act.

On board a boat, he left Sfax to go to the island of Lampedusa, at the end of September 2020, before a stopover in Sicily then finally arriving in France, at Nice station, on October 27.

For the investigating judge, Brahim Aouissaoui had premeditated his action since his departure from Tunisia, where he had apparently not warned anyone in his family.

The judge also reported

“proven radicalization”

due to association with individuals from the jihadist sphere.

Before this trial will be held the appeal of the attack of July 14, 2016 on the Promenade des Anglais, in Nice, which left 86 dead following a ram truck attack.

Sentenced to 18 years of criminal imprisonment at first instance, Chokri Chafroud and Mohamed Ghraieb will be retried for two months from April 22 to June 14.
