An unusual "trip" by train to Venice for an 8-month-old pit bull dog who boarded a train to the lagoon city from the Lison di Portogruaro station in the eastern Veneto region last Saturday.
Crouching on a seat in the compartment, looking out the window, the animal was noticed by passengers who photographed it and shared the story on social media.
Local newspapers are reporting it today.
"Roky", this is the name of the pit bull, would have been used to board the train to Venice by his owner's brother, Osman Berisa, who lives in Portogruaro, "also to impress the girls - he said - so much so that Roky follows them on the train, says near the window and enjoys the journey observing the landscape".
It was a passenger who noticed the dog and posted the image on Facebook: "On the Portogruaro-Venice Santa Lucia regional train at 8.39, the dog got on in the Lison station, sat down on a seat and then continued the journey towards Venice".
At the Santa Lucia station the animal was taken into custody by a railway police officer, who was alerted to the matter, and took it to the Mestre kennel, where it was recovered and taken home.
