Through a decree, the government of
Javier Milei
declared 2024 as the
"Year of the Defense of Life, Liberty and Property"
and established that all official documentation must bear that phrase.
The measure was ordered by the Executive Branch this Monday through
decree 55/2024
that bears the signatures of President Javier Milei and the Chief of Staff, Nicolás Posse.
"Due to the imprint that strengthening the ideas of freedom represents for the Argentine people, the national government is promoting the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of the Defense of Life, Liberty and Property,” says the decree.
It also points out that the Executive Branch "will carry out pertinent actions aimed at highlighting, disseminating and raising awareness about the values of life, liberty and property" and invites provincial governments to adhere to this decision.
According to the measure, "Argentina protects the right to life since it is a right inherent to the human person" and emphasizes that "the object of liberal democracy and the market economy is to consolidate economic stability, guarantee the right to the life, liberty and property of Argentines".
The Government maintains that this measure seeks to "promote, raise awareness and highlight the importance and meaning of the values of the Defense of Life, Liberty and Property."
"The National Constitution establishes from its Preamble the duty of the State to
ensure the benefits of freedom
for all the inhabitants of the Nation, strengthening justice and consolidating internal peace," says the decree.
The publication also highlights that "our Fundamental Law safeguards the freedom of industry and commerce, to exercise any legal industry and to dispose of one's property as a guiding principle in the social and economic structure of the Republic, so any regulations that restrict "This freedom must be the exception."
"However, for decades
the State has advanced these rights
to the detriment of the freedom of Argentines," he questions, in a strong defense of liberalism.
To this he contrasted what is already a motto adopted by the Government: "Liberalism is unrestricted respect for the life project of others, based on the principle of non-aggression, in defense of the right to life, liberty and property." , whose fundamental institutions are private property, markets free of state intervention, free competition, division of labor and social cooperation.
"The National Executive Branch has proposed reforms in the name of the May Revolution of 1810, with the spirit of restoring the economic and social order based on the liberal doctrine embodied in the National Constitution of 1853 and in defense of life, liberty and the property of all the inhabitants of Argentine soil," the decree emphasizes.
