They were in the right place at the right time: This is how the fire department's loons were able to save the life of a senior citizen.
He collapsed after swimming
This coincidence saved a life: Because ice divers from the professional fire department were completing an exercise at Lake Riem, they were there in time in the greatest need.
The men were able to rush to the aid of a senior citizen who collapsed after swimming in the ice-cold lake.
Their courageous efforts brought the 72-year-old back to life.
The basic rule is: Do not go ice swimming alone
The fateful minutes came on Monday morning.
At around 10:30 a.m., the emergency services from station 5 were busy with a diving exercise.
The firefighters then saw the man get out of the water after swimming and collapse to the ground unconscious on the bank.
By the time they reached the 72-year-old, he no longer had a pulse.
The loons immediately made an emergency call and began resuscitation.
“The defibrillator from the diving vehicle was also used,” the fire department said.
After a short time, the pulse started again and the senior was able to breathe independently again.
The alerted ambulance then took him to a Munich clinic.
Basically, you shouldn't be alone when ice swimming.
It is important to prepare well and enter the water slowly.
