The General Security Service, MGB fighters and the central unit of the Jerusalem District Police foiled a terrorist attack in East Jerusalem, which was planned by two terrorists supporting the terrorist organization the Islamic State ("ISIS").

The terrorists pledged allegiance to ISIS and planned to prepare explosives and explosive devices, using dangerous chemical substances they had purchased, to carry out attacks against civilians and the security forces in the Jerusalem area. The police and the Shin Bet revealed their intentions, and arrested them before they could carry out the attacks.

As a result, an indictment will be filed against them today (Monday) by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office.

Last month, an undercover investigation began in the Shin Bet and the central unit of the Jerusalem district, in view of the suspicion of preparing charges for the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks and belonging to the terrorist organization the Islamic State ("ISIS"). On December 26, 2023, two suspects, aged 19 and 20, residents of Ras were arrested El Amud, in their homes in East Jerusalem.

During the search conducted by the police officers, various chemical substances were seized, which were suspected to be used to prepare the explosives, ISIS and Hamas flags, a notebook detailing the stages of preparing the explosives and other findings. The investigation also shows that the two suspects consumed ISIS content on the internet before their arrest. But they didn't have time to get all the materials they needed, due to their arrest.

After the interrogation of the suspects, their detention was extended in court from time to time, and today (Monday) the indictment will be filed against them.

In the past year, the police, with the assistance of the Shin Bet, thwarted dozens of attacks and attempts to harm in the Jerusalem area, in a variety of directions, thanks to accurate intelligence and effort in the field.
