The former Buenos Aires Minister of Security valued the proposed reforms for the Penal Code. In addition, he questioned Verónica Magario for not giving rise to an initiative from her time in the cabinet of the Province of Buenos Aires.

The former Minister of Security of the province of Buenos Aires,

Sergio Berni

, spoke this Tuesday about the crime of the 9-year-old daughter of Patricia Bullrich's custodian.

In that sense, he pointed out that prevention is needed,

praised the Government of Javier Milei for its initiatives in criminal matters

and criticized that Verónica Magario, number 2 of Axel Kicillof, has shelved a police reform project.

The current Buenos Aires senator maintained that one of the big problems and discussions he had with the mayors was because they kept a retired police officer as Secretary of Security, something that they sought to change through a police reform bill that was not debated.

"That's where the problems come. We have expressed it in the police reform law and not even our political space in the Senate in the province of Buenos Aires wanted to discuss it, I screwed it up. Many who raise their voices and talk about police local authorities, then they shelved the police reform project," he said in an interview with radio Diez.

Berni stated that the problem of insecurity not only has to do with a police issue, but also part of prevention, although he insisted on the need to move forward with changes in the operation of the Buenos Aires Police.

"I went to the Senate because of this,

I am not going to allow the lieutenant governor to shelve police reform the way she did

," he stated in dialogue with Radio 10.

Along these lines, he celebrated that the national government has placed security at the center of the discussion and highlighted the project to reform the Criminal Procedure Code, promoted by the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona.

"The need for reform in Argentina has to do with reforming, above all, the code of procedure in criminal matters and the lowering of the law of imputability," he stated.

Although he clarified that his view is deeper and that it is not just about lowering the age to 14 years.

"I am glad that there are people like the current minister who brought to light the problem that prevents criminals of this kind from being released.

I am tougher than them, I am tougher than Milei, much tougher than Bullrich,

but not because we are making a competition, because reality demands that a criminal, if you do not prevent it in time, ends up in this, in the murder of a 9-year-old girl," he added.

Berni maintained that the problem of insecurity has a solution, because they are not complex crimes, but in many cases they are criminals who have nowhere to hide after they commit an act.

"I am glad that some political sectors, seen as 'extreme right' and 'hardline', are discussing or at least addressing the problem from a legislative point of view. According to my experience, which is a lot, it is not difficult to put an end to "this scourge. We are talking about a crime of absolute precariousness," he concluded about Uma's murder.

And he highlighted his support for the initiatives of Milei and his ministers: "I am glad that there is a Government that brings the problem to the table and discusses it with the responsibility that the issue deserves. I am

going to accompany it, I am a promoter."
