Role model for Wartenberg?

Will it soon be called “WartsApp” (pronounced: Wait and see) in Wartenberg?

The name would be fitting in two respects, as a project always has to be put on hold for financial reasons.

But joking aside, that was just a not entirely serious suggestion from our editorial team.

Wartenberg – Let’s stay objective like Mayor Christian Pröbst (CSU), who emphasized at the market council meeting: “It’s time for us to get an app.” Many of his market council colleagues also see it that way.

However, there was again active discussion and a decision to implement it was postponed.

There are reasons for that.

Markus Straßberger, market councilor and CSU local chairman, put a lot of passion into the project.

He now presented it to his colleagues.

This time it should work, after the market made a first attempt several years ago to simplify communication with citizens via a mobile application - “but with very limited success,” as the administration admits in the table submission to the councils.

After a year it was over.

The app should be able to offer everything possible, such as a shared calendar of events and all kinds of information, for example about garbage collection.

The clubs should play a central role.

The aim is an exchange of information between the town hall, clubs and citizens - and of course an implementation of the app that is as contemporary as possible, as Straßberger explained.

“It’s important to have a personal filter,” he said.

Users should also be able to switch off messages from fire departments or sports clubs if they are not interested in something.

To prepare the project, various discussions took place with club representatives and there was a market analysis of Deggendorf University.

Two app providers were still in the game after that - and they have since merged.

Details were given in the non-public meeting.

What had already become public, however, was the rough financial framework that the market town would have to face: The price range is between 1,800 and a good 5,000 euros gross for setting up the app and around 360 euros per month for operation.

“It won’t be more expensive,” assured VG managing director Werner Christofori when asked about the merger.

“Really a cool thing,” is how Pröbst assessed the project.

And he pointed out that the other two VG communities, Berglern and Langenpreising, are also thinking about an app.

However, this caused discussion: Whether the municipality should press ahead if a solution at VG level is also in play?

This question was the main reason why the decision made by the administration that the committee would agree to the introduction of a citizens' app on the market was dropped and the whole thing should only be discussed at VG level.

“Otherwise it will be said again that the Wartenbergers will get going,” said Nikolaus Hintermaier (now, as reported, ex-FDP).

“Everyone should pull together,” says Paul Neumeier (FWG)

“You can be constantly up to date,” said Heike Kronseder (FWG), praising the project.

However, she also found it “very expensive” and saw the danger that “all sorts of political associations” could spread news in the app and that the (printed) local brochure could potentially become unnecessary.

“These are different target groups,” emphasized Straßberger.

You can decide in advance if political actors are not wanted.

Anyone who posts something must register.

The clubs, explained Straßberger, would be held legally liable, for example, through the club chairman.

The clubs should, as far as possible, actively enter their events in the app so that the coordination of appointments with one another works well (and without overlaps).

Whether it is possible or should be possible to save on the – currently weekly – newsletter thanks to the app, “nothing is ready to say yet,” said Straßberger.

Wouldn't you rather redesign the homepage first so you don't get "lost" with all the parallel offers? asked Vice Mayor Carla Marx (Neue Mitte).

Christofori explained that the communities should first design their app and then adapt the homepage to it - for a homogeneous appearance.

Several councilors have commented that the current website is confusing.

Michael Pröbst (CSU/“We definitely need an app like this”) even spoke of a “stable”.

As a prime example, Straßberger showed the implementation of the app and homepage of the Zolling community in the Freising district.

Incidentally, the Wartenbergers would not be the first in the Erding district.

There is already a citizen app in Forstern.

Book and pasties tinker with the implementation.

In order for the app to reach citizens this time, an initial central information event is planned, followed by a citizen dialogue forum - also to eliminate any problems or ensure improvements.

What will the whole thing look like when it is implemented?

Wait for the app.

Sorry: wait and see.
