Palestinian sources close to the Hamas movement have revealed that its leaders within the Gaza Strip have begun to rely on primitive means of communication with each other, such as sending written messages, as the London-based Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq al-Awast revealed today (Tuesday).

According to what was written in the newspaper, the leaders of the terrorist organization, including the leader of the organization in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, began using written messages that are delivered by couriers after the means of communication that were in the tunnels were destroyed by air force strikes.

Sources close to the Hamas leadership told Al-Sharq al-Awast that the leaders of the movement and its military arm, the al-Qassam Brigades, who have been pursued by Israel since the start of the war more than three months ago, initially relied on the movement's ground communications, which were established by engineers.

Hamas developed the wired system in 2009. The organization upgraded the network over the years, using technology brought from outside the Gaza Strip, apparently by smuggling it through tunnels on the border with Egypt.

It is also claimed that the "Alxaam Brigades" installed underground switchboards connected to very old land lines at certain points above ground, and they were constantly checked to prevent intrusion, and periodic monthly maintenance was carried out.

It seems that Hamas maintained this form of communication at the beginning of the current war in Gaza, even though the IDF focused on hitting several communication points, destroying some of them and also destroying tunnels that contained large communication systems.

The sources revealed that the negotiations on the cessation of hostilities and the release of the abductees are conducted by the organization in face-to-face meetings, after which someone was tasked with delivering the answers to the leadership of the movement abroad using several methods. Among the methods by which the organization manages to communicate with its people outside the Strip are the use of portable memory chips and transmitting encrypted messages on the Internet through special devices bought in advance.
