Bathers in the Philippines are shocked.

Millions of fish are washed up.

Villagers speak of an evil sign or a blessing from God.

Philippines – The short videos circulating on Facebook are impressive.

Millions of small, silver fish jump out of the water.

It resembles a picture drawn by expressionists and painted on the surface of the water with small brush strokes.

In fact, it is a natural phenomenon.

Strange fish have already caused a stir elsewhere.

The natural spectacle took place at a beach resort in the municipality of Maasim in the province of Sarangani in the Philippines.

According to a report by

nationalthailand.com,

residents and guests of the local beach resort rushed to the shore and fished the fish from the sea water using their hands, bags, baskets and buckets.

A Facebook user captured the spectacle with pictures and short videos and posted them on the social media channel.

The pictures show people standing knee-deep in the washed-up fish on the bank.

Some of them film the spectacle, others set about collecting the fish, which are supposed to be sardines.

Fish flood beach in the Philippines: Villagers speak of a blessing from God

According to

nationalthailand.com,

the phenomenon is interpreted by locals as a sign that the New Year will bring good things.

The fish were washed ashore on the first Sunday of the new year (January 7, 2024).

“This is a blessing from God.

We are grateful to God for that,” the online portal quoted a villager as saying.

Another resident came to the beach at three in the morning.

At first he was nervous when he saw how many fish were stranded on the bank.

But then he decided to collect the animals.

He also spoke of a blessing.

According to his own statements, he claims to have dragged 500 kilograms.

Now he wants to sell the fish and earn up to 8,000 pesos on the market.

Local authorities asserted that the stranding of the sardines did not necessarily indicate seismic activity underwater.

When such events occur, older locals warn that they believe it is an accident or an impending catastrophe.

A provincial official, however, was more pragmatic.

The fish could have been preyed on by a larger species of fish and therefore swam to the shore, into shallow water.

Likewise, the animals could have been attracted to the lights of the beach resort.

There is no reason to worry.
