With DeSantis out of the race, the fight for the Republican presidential nomination is heating up.

Trump is already planning his cabinet.

Washington DC – Being nice to the winner after a loss is a challenge for many people.

But if the winner is Donald Trump, it will certainly be almost unbearable.

Nevertheless, Ron DeSantis jumped over his shadow after withdrawing his candidacy for the 2024 US election on Sunday (January 21): In a remarkable turnaround, he called on his supporters to now support the ex-president.

But Trump isn't particularly grateful.

Just hours after DeSantis finally withdrew from the presidential race, Trump made the comments in an interview with

Fox News.

The former president said it was "highly unlikely" he would add the Florida governor to his cabinet if he were to return to the White House.

DeSantis had long been considered a dangerous Trump rival.

If his sudden support for Trump had promised him a spot in the Cabinet after he dropped out of the presidential race, that plan probably didn't work.

Trump sees “no path” for DeSantis to the presidency

Trump commented on DeSantis' withdrawal in the interview with the words: “It's not easy.

He fought hard, spent a lot of money.” Trump added that he saw “no path” for DeSantis in terms of the presidency.

But Trump insisted on emphasizing that his former rival ultimately “did the right thing” by supporting him.

However , Trump still left a back door open in the interview with

Fox News

: He did not completely rule out future collaboration with DeSantis and declared: “Anything is possible.” Trump, however, let it be known that his choice for the cabinet would probably be based on “great people, who have accompanied me from the beginning.”

But Trump had a few warm words

for DeSantis in the interview with

Fox News .

He emphasized that DeSantis, whom he supported for governor of Florida in 2018, has similar political priorities to his own.

These include maintaining a strong military, border security and implementing tax cuts.

US election 2024: Possibly decisive showdown in New Hampshire

With DeSantis out of the race, the fight for the Republican presidential nomination is now between Trump and Nikki Haley.

Haley is still well behind the former president in most national polls.

However, the polls in question were mainly conducted when DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, who also dropped out, were still in the race.

On Tuesday (January 23rd) all eyes will be on the New Hampshire state primary election.

If he wins clearly, Trump will no longer be able to take over as the Republican presidential candidate.

Experts say Haley needs a win or at least a very narrow loss in New Hampshire to move forward with her bid.

Haley vs. Trump: “A guy and a lady”

At a campaign appearance in the moderate state, Haley said the Republican field now only consisted of "a guy and a lady."

Voters have to decide whether they want “more of the same or something new,” the 52-year-old added.

Trump appeared confident of victory a day before the vote in the east coast state: “Tomorrow we will win New Hampshire,” then “defeat Joe Biden and make America great again,” said the 77-year-old.

Referring to Haley, Trump added: "Now we're down to two people and I think one person will probably be gone tomorrow."

Haley accuses Trump of mental deterioration

It is difficult to imagine that Trump would bring Haley into his cabinet if he won the election.

Haley recently doubted Trump's mental state in a television interview and described the 77-year-old as "deteriorating."
