The German Pension Insurance sends pensioners important certificates, thereby making tax returns easier.
A new service takes work away from pensioners.
Berlin - In the first two months of the year, i.e. between January and the end of February, pensioners will receive their pension receipt certificates for 2023 from the German Pension Insurance. These documents contain information on the pension paid out in the previous year as well as the contributions for health and nursing care insurance.
Important to note: New pensioners must request the first pension receipt certificate themselves.
This can easily be done on the German Pension Insurance website.
Once the request has been successfully submitted, the certificate is automatically sent to pensioners every year.
German pension insurance supports pensioners with their tax returns
Until some time ago, the pension receipt certificate was essential for the tax return.
Today, however, the German Pension Insurance supports pensioners in this regard.
The relevant information from the certificate is passed on directly to the tax office.
The pension receipt certificate also contains an overview of which data the tax office has received.
However, if pensioners want to know the result of their tax return in advance, the certificate provides the necessary data in advance.
In addition, the certificate explains exactly which information must be entered where in the tax return.
Pensioners must submit a tax return if their taxable income exceeds the basic allowance.
In 2023, this allowance will be 10,908 euros for single people and 21,816 euros for married couples.
By sending data directly to the tax offices, filling out the tax return is made much easier.
The appendixes “R” and “Precautionary expenses” no longer need to be filled out.
Employees also receive mail from the pension insurance company
Not only pensioners, but also employees receive information about pensions at the beginning of the year.
Between January and the end of February you will receive the so-called annual report from your employer.
This document is a copy of the information that the employer passed on to the pension insurance company.
It contains, among other things, information about the length of employment and salary.
Because false information is adopted and can have a negative impact on pension rights, employees should verify this information.
The German pension insurance also advises employees to check their data.
You should compare your name, insurance number, length of employment and gross earnings.
If an error is made, the employee should ask the employer to correct it.
