An unknown person blocked the drain of a faucet in the locker room of the Egmatingen gymnasium and turned on the water: significant material damage was caused.

Egmating

– “This is anything but a stupid childish prank,” complains Egmating’s mayor Inge Heiler the day after.

What the town hall boss means is what the police call “damage to property in the locker rooms of the gym” in their statement from Tuesday, January 23rd.

There was massive water damage there.

On Monday morning, January 22nd, a cleaner discovered a running faucet in the gym locker room.

The sink drain below had been intentionally blocked with paper towels.

The sink overflowed, the water flooded the floor and seeped through the ceiling into the small community hall below and the home of the Frohsinn shooting club.

Police estimate damage at 40,000 euros

The Ebersberg police have taken over the investigation.

She estimates the material damage at around 40,000 euros.

Mayor Heiler hopes that the financial damage will be covered by insurance companies and not be left to the community.

She announced that access to the gym would have to be regulated differently in the future.

So far this has been handled rather loosely and unbureaucratically.

Gym floor needs to be inspected

She can't yet pinpoint the exact amount of damage to the building.

Drying systems are currently running in the building and the gym floor needs to be inspected for damage.

In any case, water got caught in the ceiling and soaked the insulation of pipes.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

There was already water damage during the corona pandemic; a pipe in the building from the 1970s was leaking, which no one noticed for a long time, says the mayor.

The renovation was only completed in the spring of last year.

“And now this!” Healer shakes his head at what has happened.
