Families think the playground on Rothbergweg in Mitterdarching could become more attractive.

However, an application from the SPD in the local council for an upgrade did not find a majority.

Instead, a playground sponsor should now be introduced.

Valley

- A public playground is a meeting place for families even in residential areas where many have a garden - provided it is well maintained, offers play opportunities for children of all ages and places to sit together.

This is also how the Valley community sees it: “Meet friends and play together while parents exchange ideas: the playgrounds are a popular meeting place for the little ones.

Here you can run around and play with your peers,” says the community website.

However, families do not believe that the playground on Rothbergweg in Mitterdarching meets the requirements for a popular meeting place.

The local SPD has taken up the issue and submitted an application to the local council to renew part of the playground.

However, this was not met with understanding by all local councilors.

The only concession: A playground sponsor should make communication between parents and the community easier in the future - a suggestion from Mayor Bernhard Schäfer (FWG).

Anticipation and disappointment: The prospects in the Valley for 2024

The SPD's proposal was formulated in great detail.

She pointed out some safety deficiencies, such as the fact that there were large stones under the swing and that part of the concrete foundation on the mound where the slide is located was exposed.

Bark mulch has already been applied to both the slide and the swing to correct the defects, unfortunately without success, according to the SPD.

The applicants also wanted a play area for children under three years of age, such as a play tower with a sand or gravel pit, as well as seating for children where they could have a snack after playing.

After all, it was also about care.

During inspections, it was noticed that the grass was knee-high and screws had to be tightened, according to the applicants.

Mayor promises: Security deficiencies will be corrected

There was no discussion regarding the security deficiencies.

Schäfer announced that the construction yard would make the concrete foundation safe.

The employees would also check the playground every 14 days, he said.

Schäfer couldn't get used to fall protection mats under the swing; he estimated that they would cost around 2,000 euros.

The playground would not be heavily frequented, but he would suggest a playground sponsor who could report defects and make suggestions for improvement.

Josef Klaus (CSU) interjected: That's exactly what happened here, he explained.

He questioned whether the playground was in the right place or whether a better alternative should be sought.

Josef Huber (Valleyer Liste) emphasized that when the playground was being built, he found the location to be unsuitable.

He was annoyed that more and more was being demanded.

“Keep it in shape, but don’t give in to every demand,” he said.

Barbara Walter (CSU) nevertheless brought up the possibility of financing a play tower based on donations.

She saw it as more due to the lack of attractiveness that the playground was rarely visited.

Philipp Ziegler (Greens) advocated additional play options for smaller children.

Paul Hechenthaler and Christoph Trömer (both FWG) were against new devices.

Trömer also noted that the members of the sports club would also clean up at the playground near the sports field, the second in the community.

He thought a playground sponsor was a good idea.

He could then report a need for new devices, added Johannes Schneider (SPD).

The committee was finally able to agree on this.
