This is a new record for the volunteers of the Warngau Volunteer Fire Department: they were deployed 71 times last year - sometimes on strange missions.

Warngau

- The year 2023 ended with a new record for the Warngau Volunteer Fire Department: the active team went out on 71 missions in the past twelve months - more than ever before.

At the annual meeting, the fire department looked back on how this peak value came about.

As the fire department reports, according to Commander Johann Eder, technical alarms - primarily numerous traffic accidents and fallen trees - were the main drivers of the number of operations.

The firefighters also set a new record in terms of operational hours: 1,321 hours were totaled, including 891 for technical operations, 206 for fire operations and 225 hours for security guards.

Although the number of operational hours was slightly higher in 2019, a good portion of this was accounted for by the disaster control contingent during the heavy snow event.

Cleaning lady stirs up too much dust

In addition to difficult missions, some of which also challenged the participants psychologically, Eder was also able to tell strange stories.

In August there was a false alarm in the Warngau kindergarten.

The supposed fire turned out to be a cloud of dust that had been kicked up by a dedicated cleaner.

In order to be able to cope with the many hours of operation, a well-staffed force is crucial.

Fire department chairman Sepp Gschwendtner was pleased to welcome four new active members.

The training group in Warngau currently includes 13 young people and adults.

In 2023, they completed a total of 37 exercises to learn the tools required for fire service.

There was good news about the newly planned fire station: According to Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place in the fall.

Accordingly, the new building planned at Kapellenfeld has the highest priority among the community's planned projects.

District fire inspector Andreas Schwabenbauer praised the always good cooperation with the Warngau fire department.

In his view, the trend towards increasing deployment numbers is a widespread phenomenon.

For example, floods, storms and extreme drought led to more alarms.

The district fire inspector has not yet been able to say with certainty whether the planned switch from analogue to digital alarming will take place this year.

Finally, Gschwendtner got the members in the mood for this year's activities: Among other things, the association is going out to celebrate the founding anniversaries of the Schliersee, Sachsenkam and Piesenkam fire departments.

Honors of deserving members

Chairman Sepp Gschwendtner thanked Bernhard Kutt and Hans Hinterholzer for 25 years of membership.

Johann Hacklinger, Franz Höger, Franz Ihle Sr., Sebastian Neubauer, Johann Rohbogner, Ulrich Saitner and Alois Unterreitmeier Sr. received a certificate of honor for 40 years of membership.

Franz Ihle Sr.

also received a certificate of honor from the Ministry of the Interior and the Bavarian Fire Department Cross of Honor in gold.

Ludwig Ertl, Franz Habart, Max Obermüller and Bruno Szameitat received an honorary diploma for 50 years.

The chairman thanked Max Mayr Sr., Johann Rohbogner, Josef Spiegler and Johann Eck for 60 years of membership with a tin beer mug.
