The objective of “promoting river transport as an alternative to road transport and encouraging innovative solutions for carbon-free last mile delivery” will come to fruition thanks to a new project in Charenton-le-Pont.
Following a call for projects from Haropa Port, the company ULS (Urban Logistic Solutions) won authorization to create a logistics base in Charenton.
The company will create a river link, extended by electrically assisted bicycles with trailers, between the banks of the Seine and the Parisian quays of Javel Bas (15th arrondissement) and Gros Caillou (17th arrondissement).
“This will be the first deployment in Paris, after Mulhouse, Strasbourg and Lyon,” says Thomas Castan, founding president of ULS.
The company will build a large canopy and a small warehouse.
The work will begin “after the Olympic Games to avoid interruptions to traffic on the water” and will be spread over three phases until 2027.
A construction inspired by the Port à l’Anglais bridge
“We are working with a team of architects and designers to take care of the two constructions,” insists the boss of ULS.
We were inspired by the Port à l'Anglais bridge which is not that far away, and due to flooding constraints, we are creating a structure on stilts.

A type of project that appealed to Haropa Port.
“We were sensitive to the fact that ULS has carefully worked on a proposal for landscape integration and its innovative dimension of carbon-free urban river logistics and last mile delivery which must take its full place in the municipalities and territories of the region. Can the bicycle replace delivery trucks in the city?
With two boats already under construction in a shipyard, the project is moving forward.
“The first deliveries will be possible from 2025,” announces ULS, which works in particular with Geodis.
We already know that the demand exists and our global solution, on an industrial scale, works to deliver flour, drinks, messaging, parcels and even pallets.

Once the goods arrive by boat, they will be delivered by electrically assisted bicycles with trailer, which will also cover the town of Charenton, directly from the logistics base.
