Ángela Dobrowolski will once again sit in the dock for an episode of abuse against her ex-husband, producer Josep Maria Mainat, which occurred a year before she allegedly tried to kill him, causing him to go into a hypoglycemic coma.
The Prosecutor's Office is asking for nine months in prison for breaking a jar of jam on her forehead, during Holy Week in 2019. The trial is scheduled to be held this Thursday in the Ciutat de la Justicia, which can take place even if she does not appear. .
The woman also faces 16 years in prison for the attempted murder of her ex-partner, which is scheduled to take place in July.
On an unspecified date, between April 14 and 21, 2019, Dobrowolski argued with her then-husband, Josep Maria Mainat, in the house where they lived in Barcelona.
“When both were in the living room of the family home,” guided “with the purpose of harming the physical integrity” of Mainat, the woman “threw a wooden box containing medications and the piano stool,” the Prosecutor's Office maintains.
She then hit Mainat “repeatedly” as he walked to the kitchen.
And once there, Dobrowolski “picked up a glass jar of jam that was on top of her and hit” Mainat with it, causing an “incised wound” on her forehead, without requiring medical assistance.
The public ministry considers that it is a crime of injuries in the family environment, and in addition to the 9 months in prison, requests two years and six months of deprivation of the right to own and carry weapons.
He also requests a restraining order of 1,000 meters from Mainat's home or workplace for two years in excess of the prison sentence imposed.
In the trial, it is expected that, among other evidence, the images of the video surveillance cameras that the couple had in their home will be viewed, supposedly placed at Dobrowolski's insistence on having this type of systems.
Dobrowolski is not represented in the case with a lawyer, according to judicial sources.
In the event that she does not appear, the trial can be held in her absence, as explained by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia.
Mainat has renounced accusing her ex-partner in this one, and in the rest of the cases opened against her, and will only accuse attempted murder in the trial, according to judicial sources.
Dobrowolski has accumulated legal cases against her since she was arrested in the summer of 2020 accused of trying to kill Mainat, allegedly causing her hypoglycemia, knowing that her ex-husband, with whom she has children in common, is diabetic.
Since then, the woman has broken the restraining measures imposed by the judge on several occasions, and she has also been involved in other episodes that have repeatedly led her to be detained by the Mossos and local police.
She has also spent half a year in preventive detention for violating restraining orders and another 20 days accused of burglary at home.
One of the most exotic causes in which Dobrowolski has been involved was the placing of an explosive in a home in the Sants neighborhood, in March of last year, where a woman with whom he had a feud lived.
The woman allegedly made a homemade device with a 5-liter bottle, silver foil, salfuman and alcohol that exploded on the landing of the house and caused damage, in addition to the shock and stupefaction of the neighbors.
The woman was identified through the images.
Dobrowolski is currently free, with various pending trials and the threat of returning to prison.
In that time he has also accumulated two sentences against him: a sentence of two and a half years in prison for collecting 4,100 euros through checks from Mainat by forging his signature, and another of 17 months in prison for entering on three occasions during the year. 2021 at Mainat's home when he already had a restraining order and a prohibition on communicating with the businessman.
