The problem has now been resolved, but Huglfing's mayor Markus Huber was still annoyed at the most recent council meeting: “You can't deal with citizens and communities like that.

That is impossible.” The addressee of his accusation: Deutsche Telekom (DT).

Huglfing

- At the beginning of December, a telephone pole on Moosmühlenweg became tilted due to wind and weather.

It hung diagonally over the road, held in place by wires, preventing taller vehicles from getting through.

Five weeks, many annoying phone calls, numerous complaints from citizens in the town hall and two emergency operations by the local fire department and the municipal building yard later: Telekom put the mast back up properly.

But first things first: On December 2nd, the town hall found out about the fallen mast and the fire department temporarily supported it with wooden poles.

And: The damage was reported to Telekom.

But nothing happened - in mid-December the first complaints from residents were received at the town hall: Why is the community not doing anything?

“Then we’ll be looking quite stupid.

Because the community can’t help Telekom’s actions,” said Huber in the local council.

Construction yard erected the mast

Not only the employees in the municipal administration, but also Huglfinger were always in contact with Telekom or at least tried to be: often no one answered the phone, sometimes the repair order was confirmed, sometimes they said they knew nothing about it.

Nothing concrete could be learned about private contacts either.

The police suggested cutting the lines to allow passage - but, says Huber, the citizens hanging on the lines didn't want that.

So at the beginning of January, when heavy snowfall was forecast, the building yard arrived.

The workers erected the mast and secured it with a construction container.

Two days later, a company came on behalf of DT-Technik and professionally erected the mast again.

Telekom had a lot to do

The mayor is particularly annoyed because of the long time it took for Telekom to respond, because both fire engines and ambulances would not have been able to drive on the road in an emergency.

“This can be very dangerous for citizens who need help.”

The Telekom press office in Bonn is not particularly surprised by the incident.

DT-Technik, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, “has a lot to do due to the weather,” it said.

According to a spokesman, more than 7,000 cases of damage were registered on “above-ground lines” alone.

And these would have to be gradually handled by subcontractors who also have a lot to do.
