A crackdown on hackers is contained in a draft cybersecurity bill before the Council of Ministers tomorrow.
The penalties for public officials or public service workers who illegally access a computer system, currently ranging from 1 to 5 years in prison, are increased to 2-10 years.
Strict also for those who hold or provide programs to damage computer systems: up to 2 years in prison and a fine of 10,329 euros.
Central public administrations, regions, municipalities, local health authorities and local public transport companies must notify IT incidents suffered by their systems within 24 hours at most from when they became aware of them.
In the event of delays, the National Cybersecurity Agency will be able to send inspections and, if non-compliance is repeated, apply a fine of 25 thousand to 125 thousand euros.
This is foreseen in a draft of the bill on cybersecurity that will be examined by the Council of Ministers tomorrow.
Sanctions also apply to PAs that do not comply with the Agency's indications on vulnerabilities to which they are exposed.
