The gigantic port of Antwerp was on Wednesday the symbolic place of the continental fight against drug trafficking.
This is where European interior ministers, representatives of the Commission and several EU agencies - including Europol and Eurojust - met to launch the European Ports Alliance.
The issues surrounding drugs, and more particularly cocaine, are enormous.
The Belgian Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, whose country has held the presidency of the Council of the EU since January 1, lists them: increase in corruption, violence and insecurity, growing problems social, increase in psychiatric illnesses linked to the consumption of these products, etc.
His country is particularly affected.
Former Minister of Justice, Vincent Van Quickenborne, was targeted by a kidnapping plan in September 2022 in connection with drug trafficking.
He then tried to obtain the extradition of drug traffickers…
