Train drivers across Germany have been on strike since Tuesday evening.

While commuters are struggling to keep their nerve, others are rubbing their hands.

Because the rail strike is making the cash registers ring.

District – Almost everything in rail traffic has been at a standstill since Tuesday evening.

The reason: The train drivers' union (GDL) went on strike again - for a full six days.

What is an absolute nightmare for many commuters makes the cash registers ring for others.

Car rental companies and taxi companies across Germany are benefiting from significantly higher demand - including in the Ebersberg district.

Taxi, car rental and co: rail strike lasting several days allows alternative means of transport to benefit

The Markt Schwaben taxi company “Niklas” normally operates two cars.

The third, explains owner Adrian Niklas, is on call in case of an emergency.

But his customers have been ringing loudly since Monday.

“We have a lot of inquiries.

People don't know how to get to work.

Many people want to protect themselves,” says Niklas.

The managing director has long since brought his reserve car out of hibernation and put it on the road.

The situation is similar for René Buchner in Baldham.

There is a state of emergency in his company “fahrSERVICE VaBa”.

“We have six cars, all six drive all day,” says employee Max Schäfer.

The company saw the rapidly increasing demand coming last week.

“A lot of people have pre-booked rides.

“It was the same with the last strike,” says Schäfer.

Nevertheless, overtime is inevitable in the coming days.

“Some of our drivers start at four in the morning,” he reports.

The majority of the trips booked go towards Munich.

“We no longer have any available vehicles”: Eglhartinger car rental fully booked

The drivers at the Ebersberg taxi company “Selo” are also “hard-working,” says employee Kirci Selahattin.

In Ebersberg, however, the rush is currently limited.

“We assume that people will only contact us in the next few days,” he says.

The company would then like to offer shared taxis for commuters.

When hardly anything travels by rail anymore, car rental is a good alternative for many commuters. In Eglharting, a sharp increase has already become clear with the announcement of a rail strike.

“We no longer have any available vehicles,” reports David Cammaraca, owner of the car rental company “Dave Rental Cars”.

Taxi and car rental prices remain the same in the district despite the mega-strike

All 18 cars are fully booked for the strike week, and yet the phone keeps ringing.

“So many people are calling, but I have to put everyone off,” says Cammaraca.

Unlike many other car rental companies, the manager does not want to increase the prices for his vehicles during the strike.

Meanwhile, the price for taxi rides is regulated by tariffs.

“We cannot raise our prices,” emphasizes Adrian Niklas from Schwaben.
