The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid has initiated investigation proceedings regarding the racist insults made on the social network

In principle, a possible crime committed during the exercise of fundamental rights and public freedoms will be investigated.

And among the agreed procedures is, first of all, to identify the people who uploaded their racist comments to the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The Afroféminas association, an anti-racist organization with 10 years of experience, compiled all the comments and filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office, which has been taken over by the provincial Prosecutor's Office.

The association's legal team sees the set of insults as a hate crime, punishable by up to four years in prison.

The facts, as explained in the complaint, are even more serious because they are directed against minors, “which makes them especially vulnerable victims.”

Paula and Yésica, 13, and Natalia and Elisabeth, 12, students at the San Ildefonso school, received a series of racist comments when an interview they gave to Europa Press on December 10 was published.

The video, in which they recounted the challenges and nerves before the draw, was published on the social network X and was immediately filled with insults against the four girls.

There were dozens of expletives that are still published: “Saint Ildefonso of Senegal”, “This year, attending the raffle in person will have the excitement of losing

your

phone”, “How beautiful is the Christmas raffle in Namibia”, “Did they not find to no Spaniard?

"What the hell is this?", "The families of these children win the lottery every month with the subsidies," users wrote.

On December 22, the day of the draw, the attacks continued on the official RTVE website: “Are the Nigerians drawn?”, “Cast Cucal and get the children to sing as God commands”, “To pick cotton”, “ Spain is left without children”, “This is a fraud, it happened in La Mojonera where the family of these conguitos live”.

The students of the San Ildefonso school have been singing the Christmas Lottery since 1771. Most of the children who participate are of Spanish nationality and their families come mainly from Spain, Portugal, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Peru, Morocco , Guinea and Nigeria.

The school, located in the Madrid neighborhood of La Latina, is one more in the network of centers dependent on the Community of Madrid, and also has the San Ildefonso Residence, which depends on the Madrid City Council.

Most of the children who sing the lucky numbers live there, minors who receive accommodation and education due to the precarious socioeconomic situation of their families.
