Uwe Böhm (53) was in Munich on the first day of the strike.

The state chairman of the GDL Bavaria visited the picket lines at the main train station and in Pasing.

In the interview he gives little hope for a quick agreement between DB and the train drivers' union.

Mr. Böhm, what is the strike participation like on the first day?

The participation is very good.

We have a high level of motivation among our colleagues.

They tell me: carry on.

What further upset them, of course, were the high bonus payments to the DB board members.

GDL strike in Bavaria: “The behavior of the DB management is driving us crazy”

You mean the distribution of five million euros to DB board members - despite the declining punctuality of the trains because this was offset against other target agreements.

DB boss Richard Lutz earns the equivalent of 6,000 euros a day - you have to imagine that.

On the other hand, an employee in on-board catering receives 2,300 euros per month starting out.

But she has to work shifts and spend the night out often.

The managing directors of the private railways, Länderbahn or Agilis, do not receive anywhere near the salary of a DB board member, even if you put that in relation to the number of employees.

The GDL's choice of words is strong: the DB managers are insulted as rivets in pinstripes.

Even as a liar.

Where does this hate come from?

My news

  • Decision: The toll for the Fernpass is coming - that's what it should cost

  • School bus crashes into fire station – child and bus driver seriously injured in accident in Upper Bavaria

  • Chaos due to freezing rain school closures in Bavaria: Ministry spokesman justifies organization reading

That's not hate, that's a point.

And it is also a piece of truth.

The behavior of DB management is driving us crazy.

And (DB human resources director) Seiler is actually lying to the press when he says that DB is now offering a reduction in working hours.

Of course, if the staff pays for it themselves with loss of income.

800 train drivers in Bavaria are civil servants - they have to drive

Despite the strike, there are train drivers who are driving.

Who actually?

Around 800 train drivers in Bavaria are civil servants and they are not allowed to go on strike.

The railway is also trying to get senior staff to drive during the strike period, such as group leaders or trainers.

Of course, there are also train drivers who are not in a union, and they too are still on the line.

Give us some hope: Is it conceivable that the strike will end early - because perhaps there will be an agreement after all?

I don't see any signs of this.

On the contrary, I fear that there will be another strike.

The DB is doing terrible things.

The GDL has now achieved very good collective bargaining agreements with 18 companies - for a total of 10,000 railway workers.

Is there actually a limit to how long the strike can last?

No, there is no legal regulation that would limit a strike in time.
