“Person in a psychological state of emergency”: Police close off residential area in Montabaur
In the morning, the police were informed “about a person in a psychological state of emergency in a residential area in Montabaur who would pose a danger to himself and others,” writes the Koblenz Presidium.
The area was cordoned off and people were evacuated.
“A danger to bystanders can currently be ruled out,” the police explained.
Numerous officers are still on duty around Elgendorfer Straße.
Further details are not initially known.
Danger to yourself and others: signs of psychological distress
A “mental state of emergency” can manifest itself in a variety of ways.
The

aid foundation describes five signs of such a crisis:
Disturbance of consciousness:
Person is unresponsive, appears confused or dazed.
Disturbance of connection with reality:
person has delusions, hallucinations, great fear or high levels of suffering.
Suicidal thoughts:
Person expresses suicidal thoughts and cannot distance themselves from them.
Overwhelming emotions:
Person is afraid, panicked, sad, or emotionally empty.
Aggressive behavior:
Person is difficult to control and threatens to hurt themselves or others.
A comparable case occurred shortly after Christmas Eve in Northeim.
A man in a psychological state of emergency barricaded himself and was arrested by the police.
Similar was the case of a pensioner from Karlshud who threatened his family with a gun.
