An expansion of the mammoth hall in Marienstein is out of the question for the Waakirchner building committee.

The fact that Franz Haslberger, who rarely appears in public, explained his concerns personally did not change the attitude.

Waakirchen

- This time Franz Haslberger personally came to the building committee meeting in Waakirchen as a listener.

It wasn't a big deal.

The Freising building materials contractor, owner of the Marienstein mine site, asked to be allowed to add a wood chip heating system with a large storage bunker to his mammoth hall on the hillside.

But the history still has an impact.

The majority of the committee saw inconsistencies and no reason to enlarge the construction window with an exception.

With a vote of 7:2, the committee rejected Haslberger's request.

Only Mayor Norbert Kerkel and Franz Reiter (both FWG) supported the request.

“There’s an awful lot of space there.”

“I don’t know what kind of hall this is and what’s happening there,” explained Cornelia Riepe (Greens).

It is not clear why wood chip heating was not included in the plan from the start.

“There’s an awful lot of space there,” said Riepe.

Günther Jeske (FWG) agrees.

The hall is already 80 meters long and the construction window has been exhausted.

“We already had several suggestions about this,” recalled Jeske.

In the past, it was not just the dimensions of the hall built in 2021 that caused anger in the building committee.

Above all, the fact that Haslberger had a storage area created, which the committee only became aware of after completion, caused dissatisfaction.

The demand for dismantling came to nothing.

“I don’t see in any way that we should be accommodating,” explained Rudi Reber (ABV).

It is not understandable that the community should make “a gut punch” so that Haslberger can implement his building wishes: “The hall is big enough, the heating fits in there.”

Haslberger explains the function of the hall

Mayor Kerkel gave Haslberger the opportunity to reveal the secret of what was actually happening in the hall.

The entrepreneur reported that it was a warehouse and machine hall.

In order to repair and maintain the machines, some areas would have to be tempered.

“It's two or three degrees in the hall at the moment,” explained Haslberger. The extension – around twelve meters tall with a flat roof – is needed for a large storage bunker.

Ultimately, the aim is to remove the wood chips produced in the forest in one go.

Installing the system within the hall would cost valuable storage space.

His comments did not convince the majority.

Green councilor Cornelia Riepe insisted that she still didn't know which business was located in the hall.

Mayor Kerkel votes for the motion

Mayor Kerkel, on the other hand, saw the project as sufficiently explained.

Haslberger recently planned a large wood-fired power plant whose waste heat would also have heated the hall, he recalled.

After the failure of this project, the much smaller facility is now being planned.

As reported, the wood-fired power plant idea will not be pursued further because there are not enough buyers for the heat generated.
