Germany is located in temperate latitudes and does not have a tropical climate.
If you know what you're looking for, you'll still find a few hidden places with a tropical flair.
Dream beaches with azure water and dense jungle forests full of colorful birds.
For many people, the tropics are a holiday destination that is often one thing above all: very far away.
After all, the equator with its tropical climate is over 5,000 kilometers away.
Nevertheless, there are some places in Germany that are reminiscent of the tropical world in one way or another.
We have put together seven of them for you.
You can find even more excursion tips to picturesque villages in Germany here.
Tropical feeling in Germany: 1. Explore the thicket of the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue on the Rhine
Hesse's largest nature reserve sounds like a traditional German main dish: the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue.
It is located in the Groß-Gerau district between the Rhine and Bergstrasse.
The forests on the river island have not been used for forestry purposes for years and, according to
Nabu Hesse,
a particularly large number of rare animal species live here.
In summer, the air on the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue, which can only be reached on foot or by bike, is humid and heavy, and the many mosquitoes are reminiscent of a real jungle.

2. Experience Caribbean flair in Brandenburg at the Tropical Islands
The indoor water park Tropical Islands in Brandenburg is completely different from the natural Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue.
“Europe's largest tropical holiday world” offers games and fun for the whole family, but at the same time wellness and relaxation with a sauna and spa.
Just like a beach resort in the Caribbean.
If you want to catapult yourself from everyday German life into a tropical paradise for a day, this is the right place for you.

3. Watch butterflies between palm fronds in tropical houses
There are tropical houses in which tropical plants grow at various locations in Germany.
No matter whether the Palm Garden in Frankfurt, the Amazon House in Stuttgart Zoo Wilhelma or the botanical garden in Munich: palm trees, high humidity and often tropical animal species await visitors everywhere.
Guided tours bring you even closer to the extraordinary plants.
They are perfect places for those who want to not only enjoy the tropics but also understand them.

4. Hike the Heimbach jungle trail in North Rhine-West
In the north of the Eifel, the Heimbach jungle trail awaits tropical fans.
It always runs along the Heimbach reservoir, mainly on wooden footbridges and natural forest paths.
And if you get a taste for it, you can then continue exploring the Eifel National Park.

5. Visit Germany's most colorful island on Lake Constance
In the very south of Germany lies the island of Mainau in Lake Constance, which is also called the “flower island of Lake Constance”.
The climate here is particularly favorable for plants that actually only grow in the much warmer south.
Up to 120 different species of butterflies from tropical regions of the world live in a butterfly house on the island.
Mainau also made it onto our list of the best spring trips in Germany.
6. Ship to the “Amazon of the North” in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
The Amazon region is the most biodiverse region on earth.
The Peene in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania cannot quite keep up with this.
Nevertheless, the Peenetal is known for its rich beaver and otter populations.
You can explore the Peene on your own by canoe or kayak.
You get incredibly close to northern German nature.
And the whole thing doesn't seem that North German - only the pretty properties in between remind you that you're not in South America.

7. Between beaches and jungle
Not far from the Peene, also in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, lies the Darßwald on the Baltic Sea peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst.
Like the Kühkopf-Knoblochsaue at the beginning of this list, the Darßwald is a particularly natural forest and is therefore reminiscent of tropical jungles.
You can explore it on foot, on horseback or by bike and observe many animals.
What's particularly nice is that it's never far from the next beach.
And the wide sandy beaches are also reminiscent of their - although usually slightly warmer - counterparts in the tropics.
