While the metropolitan area goes through the first month with new rates for public transportation, mayors of different cities in Argentina maintain their demand for the end of what they consider
"the historical discrimination"
of the Government within the country in terms of transportation subsidies .
This Wednesday, while the CGT, La Cámpora and leftist organizations marched to Congress in a day of strike, the
mayors of the cities of Mar del Plata, Rosario, Córdoba and Salta
, among others, held a virtual meeting to address the issue.
The local leaders
also ask to be received by
the Secretary of Transportation of the Nation,
Franco Mogetta.
In that sense, they announced that they will request a hearing with the official for next week.

The mayors will attend the meeting with the Secretary of Transportation with the request for
a more equitable redistribution of transportation subsidies
for the 2024 financial year, which currently has the metropolitan area and the City of Buenos Aires as the main beneficiary.
Among other issues, they support their request in the sharp jump that
inflation
took last December – which stood at 25.5% – and the similar figures that are expected for January.
Mayors from different parts of the country met virtually to complain to the Nation about subsidies for public transportation.
As explained by the spokespersons of the mayors, until December the National State financed 90% of the real cost of the ticket in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, while in cities in the interior the amount falls below 25% and
are the municipalities and provinces who complete the public transportation service subsidy.
The mayors will also propose that the
compensatory fund
go to the social attributes of the users, that is, replace the subsidy to companies with the subsidy to passengers.

The sharp rise expected in transportation rates in February
On January 14, the new fare scheme for public transportation in the metropolitan area came into effect.
The train and bus ticket rose 45%, which meant that
the minimum bus ticket went from $52.96 to $76.92,
while that of the Mitre, Sarmiento and San Martín railway went from $25.72 to $76.92. 37.38, and that of Roca, Belgrano and Urquiza, from $33.29 to $48.38.
Meanwhile, a sharp increase in public transport rates is expected for February.
The minimum ticket will start at $270 for the bus and $130 for the train,
as long as the SUBE card is registered.
Otherwise, the bus will cost $430.
Meanwhile, in the case of the train, the current minimum fare (of $48.38 for the Miter Line, and $37.38 for the Urquiza, Belgrano Norte, Belgrano Sur, and Roca lines) will be unified at $130. The second section (12 to 24 kilometers) will go to $169 and the third (more than 24 kilometers) to $208.
