“Stop animal washing!”

» “Let’s get out of animal captivity.

» « Paris Aquarium = Illegal Nightclub.

» So many slogans that we could read this Thursday on the signs of the Paris Animals Zoopolis (PAZ) association, which fights for animal rights.

Its demonstrators took advantage of a conference on “animal welfare” organized by the Paris Aquarium to demonstrate the same day, at 1 p.m., in front of the Geographical Society, in the 6th arrondissement.

“The Paris Aquarium is organizing a conference to give itself a good image when it doesn't even apply the law.

What a charade!

We are not fools,” protested Amandine Sanvisens, co-founder of PAZ.

“Fish are not attractions”

Already mobilized at the Trocadéro last December, the association's activists accuse the Paris Aquarium (16th arrondissement) of violating the 2021 law aimed at combating animal abuse.

The latter denounce the evenings which take place in its night establishment, the aQuarium - Le Club, located in the middle of the fish.

PAZ IN ACTION

The association relies on an article of law which prohibits in particular "the presentation of domestic or non-domestic animals in discotheques", insisting in passing in its press release on the fact that "fish are not attractions or decoration .

They are sensitive animals.

“The prefecture’s inaction is revolting”

The aQuarium - The Club houses the second largest artificial pool in France and extends into the basement of the Trocadéro gardens.

Reopened in 2006, it can accommodate up to 2,084 clubbers, surrounded by more than 500 species of fish, including sharks, eagle rays, angel fish and other jellyfish.

“Why do these evenings persist?

» asks the association.

She recalls that the Paris administrative court had ruled in February 2022 that the authorization to install the aquarium only aimed at the “presentation of animal species to the public”, and not the organization of evenings.

And had ordered the Paris police headquarters to “implement its powers”.

“The inaction of the prefecture is revolting”, considers PAZ in its press release, before demanding that the two companies in question be sanctioned and that the City of Paris, owner of the place, opposes these evenings.

Contacted by the association, the office of Christophe Najdovski, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of animal welfare, responded on January 8 that “following your alert, our services are currently studying this matter and a meeting with those in charge of the Aquarium will soon be organized.
