The forecasts were definitely far too pessimistic.
Over the whole of 2023, the American economy will have grown by 2.5%, according to figures from the Department of Commerce published Thursday.
That is, GDP growth almost twice as high as forecasts a year ago.
Inflation, whose surge had justified the Fed's monetary tightening which risked stifling activity, fell back to around 2%.
At the end of the year, in the fourth quarter, growth in the United States also far exceeded forecasts which were around 2%.
It stands, according to the first estimate, at 3.3% at an annual rate.
