In August 2022, the sauna in the Prinzregentenbad Munich burned down.

Since then, the Prinze sauna has been closed - and, according to the SWM, will remain so for the next few years.

Munich – winter time is sauna time.

But the people of Bogenhausen will probably have to travel further for years to sweat.

Because the sauna in Prinze will remain closed indefinitely after the devastating fire on August 20, 2022.

Sauna reopening in the Prinzregentenbad a long way off

A spokeswoman for Stadtwerke München (SWM), which operates the Prinzregentenbad, told our newspaper about this at the request of our newspaper.

It will probably take several years to reopen.

Thick smoke darkened the sky and flames raged within.

The cause of the fire was initially unclear.

Today the municipal utilities are assuming a technical defect.

Luckily no one was injured, but the damage to property is immense.

According to SWM estimates, the amount is in the low millions.

The building statics of the Prinze sauna were examined

One thing is clear: the people who suffer are the Prinze sauna goers.

The reconstruction is extensive and time-consuming.

On the one hand, the supporting structure had to be checked after the strong heat development, according to the spokeswoman.

On the other hand, the construction industry has been very busy in recent years.

Prices rose massively and staff was difficult to find.

All of this delayed reconstruction.

And the SWM “regrets” that, they say.

The structural analysis of the building was completed in November.

Now the municipal utilities want to continue planning.

The next phase includes the repair of the structure and the new planning of the sauna areas.

For this purpose, SWM wants to recruit a planning team in an EU-wide tender.

The spokeswoman explains that it should also take into account the wishes of the guests, which were determined during a survey.

In addition, necessary energy saving measures should be integrated.

After the fire in Prinzregentenbad: This has happened since then

But there was progress after the inferno.

Walls were cleaned of signs of fire, plumbing pipes were checked and new fire protection seals were built.

“A shell of the building was essentially restored on the first floor of the building,” says the spokeswoman.

After all: the ice skating stadium is currently open.

And splashing around in the Prinze outdoor pool is possible again from summer.
