Around 300 farmers booed Bundestag member Anton Hofreiter in Germering.

The federal politician was a guest speaker at the Green Party's New Year's reception.

Germering - Anton Hofreiter was invited as a prominent speaker to the Green Party's New Year's reception in the brewery.

Numerous farmers from the region used the publicly announced visit to vent their anger about the traffic light government's policies.

“You should never forget one thing.

We farmers take care of your food” was one of the many posters and banners that were stretched towards the Greens on the village street in front of the brewery.

Despite all the clearly expressed displeasure, the statements mostly remained within limits.

A few outliers did not find support even among the demonstrators.

“I don’t want to have anything to do with that,” said a father, pointing to a heart on which there was talk of fantasies of subversion.

Hofreiter gets boos

Ferdinand Wenig, deputy farmer's chairman in Bruck, was clearly trying to keep the event calm.

“We listen to each other,” he shouted to the crowd in reference to the guest from federal politics.

Wenig received applause when he spoke of “the fact that all the subsidies are actually lousy compensation for expenses”.

When Hofreiter wanted to speak to the farmers from the elevated entrance to the brewery, the calm was quickly over.

He still got to the explanations of the negotiated compromises.

But then a sentence was uttered that brought the mood to a boil: “The state can no longer afford everything.” Boos and whistles followed.

Somewhere in the crowd the term “warmonger” came from an individual.

A poster said that there was money for tanks and cartridges.

What was meant by this is clear: Hofreiter never held back in his demands for more support for Ukraine.

MP Hofreiter, who comes from Sauerlach, only briefly commented on this in front of the protesters.

During his speech in the brewery he became clearer.

One must be aware that Ukraine also defends the freedom to demonstrate, said the controversial federal politician of the farmers and added.

“Ukraine only wants money and weapons, it does the fighting itself.”

In this context, Hofreiter also warned against leaving the political stage in this country to radical forces like the AfD.

“Anyone who thinks they have to vote for protest is endangering democracy.” His appeal to give democratic forces a vote in the European elections was downright passionate.

These ranged from the Conservatives to the Liberals to the Greens.

Conversations between Greens and farmers

After his speech, Hofreiter sought a conversation with Simon Sedlmair, district chairman of the Dachau Farmers' Association.

When asked, Ferdinand Wenig, deputy farmer's chairman in Bruck, said that the content of the half-hour exchange remained rather on the surface.

But he also said: “It was important that this conversation even took place.”

Ferindand Wenig gave Hofreiter a letter from the Bruck farmers.

The core of the message that Hofreiter should take with him to Berlin: “Expensive means of production, high technology costs and low producer prices.

Added to this are high construction costs, ever-increasing requirements and a very uncertain future without planning security and political support.”

A meeting between the district Greens from Fürstenfeldbruck and Starnberg and farmers will soon show what this looks like in practice.

The Green district spokespersons Lisa Stockmann (Fürstenfeldbruck) and Verena Machnik (Starnberg) had repeatedly sought to talk to Sedlmair and Wenig during the demonstration.

Ferdinand Wenig explained that he felt understanding and a willingness to listen: “It’s no use if everyone sticks 100 percent to their demands.”

In connection with the protest, Wenig also praised the police.

She was very relaxed and always acted objectively.

Only a few demonstrators had to be calmed down and expelled from the area in front of the brewery.
