A couple of entrepreneurs from Deggendorf are giving their employees special company holidays.
In 2023 we went to Crete, this year to Dubai.
Scissors for sunglasses – at the expense of the bosses.
Deggendorf – The idea came to them two years ago.
“The time was characterized by ups and downs – especially with Corona,” remembers Ivan Metzler.
Together with his wife Maria, a trained master hairdresser, he runs hairdressing salons with two branches in Regen and Deggendorf, Lower Bavaria.
The entrepreneurial couple wanted to thank the employees for their flexibility and commitment.
“Then we thought for a long time about what we could do and the idea came to give the employees a trip,” says Metzler.
The destination was quickly found: we were supposed to go to the Greek island of Crete.
This year too, the hairdressers swap scissors for sunglasses, pack their bags and travel at the expense of the two bosses - this time to Dubai.
It starts in May.
Entrepreneur couple announces holiday message at Christmas party – employees overwhelmed
“We opened this up to our employees at the Christmas party,” says Metzler, who is responsible for personnel.
The employees were overwhelmed.
Some even cried when they heard about the planned vacation.
“The employees also say: You give the material things and then they are quickly forgotten.
But you never forget moments like that in your life.”

The entrepreneurial couple consciously wanted to make a statement.
They think: Unfortunately, appreciation for staff is often lost these days.
“The employees are the mainstay of the company,” explains Ivan Metzler to our editorial team.
There are several reasons for the unusual company trips.
“This is primarily a thank you, but also a team building measure and motivation for a good mood at work.”

In addition, customers would also benefit from their Dubai vacation.
Because: The more motivated the employees, the better the results and the better the atmosphere in the salon.

To ensure that the two branches do not have to close during company holidays, around twelve employees travel at staggered times.
First the staff from Deggendorf flies to Dubai for six days, then the employees from Regen follow - both salons represent each other, explains Metzler.
The two bosses are not on the trip.
“This is a conscious decision.
We stay here and let the employees enjoy their vacation because it is also a team building measure.
Because: Who wants to lie on the beach with their boss?” says Metzler with a laugh.
The hairdresser couple receives a lot of support for a special company holiday - costs around 30,000 euros
Ivan Metzler expects costs of around 30,000 euros for the twelve hairdressers.
“The employees don’t pay a cent for it – full program.” He emphasizes: The prices are still moderate and the salon is in the middle price segment.
“A lot of people think we’re shifting costs around.
That’s not the case at all!” says Metzler.
Maria and Ivan Metzler also informed customers about the campaign via social media.
The reactions are consistently positive.
One user writes: “Wow, great!
That's what I call appreciation for the employees.
Some bosses should take a lesson from that.”
Another commented: “It's the absolute highlight when you have bosses like this who recognize that the team is the cog that keeps the machine running!
My absolute respect for an amazing team and the bosses are unparalleled in their emphatic and grandiose actions.”
And are there any plans for next year?
“We always come up with something good for our employees, but we don’t want to anticipate anything.
“They’re flying to Dubai now,” laughs Metzler.
