Still fiercely opposed to the immigration law adopted at the end of December, the City of Paris intends to continue to make it known.

While the Constitutional Council decided on Thursday to largely censor the text, the Parisian municipality announced at the same time to open the doors of the City Hall to Parisians this Saturday, January 27, from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Presenting itself as the town hall of a “welcoming and integration city” as opposed to the defenders of this law.

“In response to the adoption of the immigration law, the City of Paris reaffirms its identity and its attachment to the values ​​of welcome and integration,” underlined the municipality in a press release published Thursday.

To do this, it is organizing an afternoon of debate around the provisions of this immigration law, which also provides for a ceremony in the presence of newly naturalized Parisians.

The day, open to all, requires online registration.

The debates will be held in the presence of senators Marie-Pierre de la Gontrie and Ian Brossat, as well as the lawyer Me Laurence Roques, former president of the Commission on Liberties and Human Rights and Delphine Rouilleaut, general director of France Terre d 'Asylum.

The debates will be broadcast on a screen.

Information, exhibitions and ceremony

From 3 p.m., Parisians naturalized at the end of 2023 are invited with their loved ones to a welcome ceremony in the presence of the mayor (PS) of Paris Anne Hidalgo, her deputies, district mayors and “great witnesses embodying the wealth and diversity of Parisians with an immigrant background,” it is stated in the press release.

Associations committed to access to the law and city services will hold stands all afternoon, on which public reception, integration, education and solidarity services will be presented.

Visitors will also be able to attend four exhibitions: “Portraits of learners” from the “REFUG” system dedicated to learning French, “Sports and diversity” which traces the contributions of athletes of foreign origin in French sports. 1896 to the present day, “Coming from elsewhere, they made France” on the economic, cultural and scientific contributions of foreigners in Paris and finally “Parisians from here and elsewhere” from the Ayyem Zamen association which runs two social cafes to support elderly migrants.

Anne Hidalgo has made her opposition to the immigration law known several times in recent weeks.

In December, the mayor declared that she would never “sort” between families and children hosted in emergency accommodation, as this new law could force her to do.
