Storm “Jitka” causes problems on tracks and roads.

But soon the weather calms down.

And the first signs of spring are appearing.

Kassel – Storm “Jitka” caused quite a stir in Germany.

Near Bad Driburg in East Westphalia (North Rhine-Westphalia), the storm on Wednesday (January 24) caused a tree to collapse and fall onto the tracks.

A regional train that had around 50 passengers on board crashed into it - fortunately, according to a spokesman for the Nordwestbahn, no one was injured in the impact.

In Hamburg there was an accident on subway line 1 due to a fallen tree.

The storm hit the Brocken in the Harz most violently, where wind speeds of up to 143 km/h were reached on Wednesday.

In addition to the effects of the storm, there was also heavy rainfall.

Ferry connections on the North and Baltic Seas therefore had to be canceled.

A storm surge warning has now been issued on the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony due to flooding.

Road traffic was also affected due to fallen trees: Autobahn 21 in Schleswig-Holstein had to be completely closed from Bad Oldesloe in the southbound direction because a tree had fallen onto the road.

But improvement in the weather is in sight: the situation calms down on Thursday (January 25th).

“The storm has passed away,” explains meteorologist Dominik Jung from

wetter.net

.

A short storm comeback is predicted for Friday (January 26th), because then a “small but fine storm front will move into northern and western Germany”.

This can bring hurricane-like gusts of up to 100 km/h.

But then the stormy times are over for the time being.

Things are quieter on the weekend, even if the temperatures go down a bit.

The weekend brings a “little touch of winter” – then it becomes “spring-like”

“Night frost is an issue again,” says Jung with regard to Saturday and Sunday (January 27th/28th).

And the weather expert also expects a “touch of winter”.

The German Weather Service (DWD) classifies it similarly.

According to the DWD forecast, it will be bitterly cold in places during the night from Saturday to Sunday, with temperatures ranging from 0 to -7 degrees.

On Monday night it could get even colder in parts of Bavaria with temperatures of up to -10 degrees.

The weather forecast for the coming days

(source: dwd.de)

:

  • Thursday (January 25th):

Very cloudy or overcast in many cases, brief sunny moments especially from Lower Bavaria and Franconia across the middle to the North Sea,

    6 to 13 degrees

  • Friday (January 26th):

partly rain, rain showers decreasing from midday onwards with changing clouds,

    7 to 13 degrees

  • Saturday (January 27th):

Cloudy or heavily cloudy in the north and east, otherwise friendly and often longer sunshine,

4 to 9 degrees during the day

  • Sunday (January 28):

Cloudy in the north, mostly sunny in the south after the fog has cleared,

    3 to 12 degrees

Jung still considers the onset of winter to be “very unlikely”; a winter comeback is not expected in the first ten days of February.

Rather, mild spring weather is forecast for the start of the coming week.

In the last days of January of the current year, the thermometer can rise to 7 to 12 degrees on Monday (January 29) and Tuesday (January 30).

Wednesday (January 31st) could be even warmer; according to the weather expert, it will be “almost spring-like”.

Sunshine and temperatures of up to 15 degrees ensure the best weather - and it could continue like this
