High honor for a woman who was the face of the Weilheimer Tafel for many years: Eva-Maria Muche has now been awarded the city's Citizens' Medal for her "tireless commitment".

Weilheim

- It is an honor that the city of Weilheim handles with great care: at most once a year, the city council awards the citizen's medal, made of solid silver, to a personality who has particularly distinguished himself "through meritorious work for the well-being or reputation of the city and the people." “Citizenship Awarded”.

A maximum of 25 people can be recipients of the Citizen's Medal at the same time.

There are currently 13 Weilheimers.

There was no doubt in the city council that Eva-Maria Muche more than deserved the award.

And this was also shown by the long applause last Thursday evening in the meeting room when the medal was handed over along with the certificate and bouquet of flowers.

The award ceremony was actually planned for the festive Christmas meeting;

However, the honoree fell ill.

Their commitment was “a great blessing” for the Weilheimer Tafel

In a very personal speech, Mayor Markus Loth acknowledged the commitment of the now 71-year-old.

The fact that she joined the Weilheimer Tafel, which had been founded two years earlier, in 2005 as a helper “should turn out to be a great blessing for the institution,” said the town hall boss.

Because in 2009 “the previous management was canceled from one day to the next”, the architect Muche took over as her successor.

“She was used to organizing in her job,” says Loth.

Until February 2023, Eva-Maria Muche was in charge of the food bank with its now 70 volunteers.

“Who collects the goods from the numerous companies?

Who takes care that everything is well sorted?

Who is at the goods drop-off point every Thursday...?” This is how the mayor outlined the many threads that came together at Muche.

In Weilheim there is the “only table field in Germany”

Since 2012, the food bank has been housed in the then newly built Protestant community center, and since 2013 it has also been delivering supplies to citizens with restricted mobility at home.

As a special project that was created under Muche's aegis, Loth named the “only table field in Germany”: a cultivation and bee project that was implemented together with seven Syrian refugee families and from which a Bavarian-Syrian cookbook also emerged.

Today the project has its home in the “Garden of Encounter” on Pistlgasse.

“It wouldn’t have worked without the team at my side”

The corona pandemic and soon afterwards the wave of refugees as a result of the war of aggression on Ukraine were additional challenges that Muche had to overcome before she quit as head of the Tafel last February - not without transferring this task “into good hands,” as Loth emphasized.

The town hall boss summarized that she had “led the board through turbulent times” and had “achieved outstanding results for those who are not on the sunny side of life”.

And in view of the current freeze on accepting new customers (as a result of the overload situation and the reduced food supply), Loth expressed the hope that “the situation will improve again soon”.

She thanked her family and the “super team” at the table: “It wouldn’t have worked without the team by my side.”
