Against the background of the war in Gaza and a decrease in ship traffic in the Suez Canal - the relationship between Israel and Egypt is approaching a breaking point, the "Wall Street Journal" newspaper published today from Egyptian political sources.

According to the report, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have not spoken in recent weeks - after al-Sisi rejected several attempts to establish contact from Jerusalem.

Against the background of statements by Israeli politicians in favor of "voluntary migration" of the citizens of the Gaza Strip, Egypt fears a situation in which Israel will push the Palestinian population to the Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian officials and others familiar with the situation say relations between the two countries are at their lowest point in at least two decades.

Even then, the response to the second intifada threatened to bring a wave of refugees to Egypt.

The tense relations reach a boiling point also against the background of the Houthi rebels' attacks in the Red Sea, which target commercial ships passing through the Suez Canal.

The Suez Canal Authority reported that this year Egypt lost about 40% of its revenue from the passage of marine cargo vessels compared to Ashtrad, while the traffic of the passage of ships decreased by about 30%.

The decline will lead to losses of billions of dollars for Egypt.
