Families in Altenstadt and Schwabniederhofen will have to dig deeper into their pockets from the next kindergarten year onwards: the fees will rise significantly.

And around 50 euros on average.

More is also required for care in crèches and after-school care centers.

Altenstadt

– “The kindergarten fees are clearly too low”: With this statement, Altenstadt Mayor Andreas Kögl opened the corresponding agenda item at the most recent meeting of the local council.

Reason: The Free State of Bavaria has been subsidizing kindergarten children with 100 euros per month since 2019.

The payment is made directly to the municipalities as part of child-related support in accordance with the Bavarian Child Education and Care Act (BayKiBig).

The municipality currently has two childcare facilities: the St. Michael kindergarten on Jahnstrasse, run by the parish of the same name.

And the newly opened children's home with Kinderhilfe Oberland as the sponsor, currently housed in the premises of the nearby primary school.

After the funding has been deducted, 15 euros remain - that's too cheap

So far, the amount for the minimum booking time of four to five hours in both hotels has been 115 euros.

“That means, after deducting the funding, the parents pay 15 euros,” says Kögl.

Not enough, as the town hall boss thinks.

Citizens are even letting their children be looked after in daycare for longer and longer, “because it doesn’t matter.”

In addition, the costs would continue to rise.

“The municipality pays the deficit.” The monthly contributions should therefore increase to 160 euros for the coming kindergarten year.

The fee is 110 euros for siblings and 185 euros for children under three years of age.

In the crèche, the jump is not quite as big – despite government funding.

At 210 euros, the minimum booking time is ten euros more than before.

Siblings cost 160 euros.

Play money of four euros

Students must be registered in the after-school care center for at least two to three hours per day.

From September, this period will now cost 115 euros instead of 91 euros, siblings pay 95 euros.

There is also play money of four euros.

SPD man Konstantin Papamichail showed no understanding for this initiative: “I find the statement that parents are booking more and more hours in kindergarten because it is so cheap completely wrong.

With the subsidy, the government's plan was to consciously relieve the burden on parents, and we want to increase the fees." In his opinion, the old contributions were not too low, but rather low-threshold.

“Many will be able to afford the increase, but many won’t.”

Increase decided against three no votes

The Altenstadt budget is well balanced.

“Why do we have to turn this exact fee screw now,” he addressed the town hall boss.

He promptly countered: “We don’t want to push the issue because registration for 2024/2025 starts in March and parents should know what it costs.” And those who actually couldn’t afford it received state funding.

With three votes against, the committee voted in favor of the higher contributions.
