Anno 2010: When the Liedertafel Au last performed Holledauer Fidel, Thomas Hofstetter as “Fidel”, Evelyn Köhler as “Reserl” and Thomas Hofstetter as “Fidel” (left pair) took on the main roles of the Bavarian operetta.

This year the people of Au are daring to do it again: to celebrate the 675th anniversary of the market, the Liedertafel is bringing “Holledauer Fidel” to the stage.
Actors are now being sought for this.
Au/Hallertau
- The Fidel and the Reserl, the moneyed Siach farmers from Holledau and the poor Wurmdoblers from the “Woid”: “The Holledauer Fidel”, a Lower Bavarian operetta from 1920, revolves around them. They have led the Liedertafel Au ever since five times - most recently in 2010. The members now want to build on the great success, in keeping with the 675th anniversary of the market town.
“This is ideal because the mayor said it would be nice if we could make our contribution,” reports Hilde Seidl, chairwoman of the Liedertafel.
Although the composer Erhard Kutschenreuter comes from Passau, the Singspiel primarily revolves around life in Holledau, especially the Hopfenland and its people in the early to mid-19th century.
For the Auer it is a journey into the past, with a lot of feeling, a little nostalgia, but also turbulent scenes.
“We wanted to play something different, but the Fidel is simply a guarantee for a full house in Holledau,” says Seidl.
Around ten performances planned
That's how it should be again this year: not just at the premiere on Friday, September 6th, in the Hopfenlandhalle, but also at the other dates.
The game will be played ten times until the beginning of October.
“The preparatory work has been done, the permits are all in place,” says Seidl, who has been a member of the Liedertafel since 1989 and has therefore been on stage herself three times.
It has been 14 years since the last Fidel.
“Of course we are 14 years older, but we said we would dare to do it again,” said the 71-year-old.
She receives support from the Liedertafel and, above all, from her husband Günter Hundegger, whom she inherited as chairwoman eight years ago.
So that everything works out in September, it's now time to get down to business: actors and singers are being sought, and quite a few of them.
To be on the safe side, the main roles are cast twice, plus the choir, which represents the people, and a children's choir.
“The more people there are, the nicer it is,” says Seidl.
A string orchestra of around 25 members provides the right music.
“A total of around 100 people are involved.”
The application phase is now underway
In order to find them, the application phase is now underway.
Seidl emphasizes: “Of course you should be able to sing to some extent, and acting skills are not a bad idea either.” But apart from that, anyone can apply.
Whether your residence is in Holledau or somewhere else entirely is irrelevant.
“As long as they identify with the Bavarian language and can sing it, everyone is welcome - even if it's a price.” Because what's special about “Fidel” is without a doubt the community.
Being part of such a large project is great fun.
“The melodies are beautiful.
Even if you join in, you can listen to it eleven, twelve, 13 times and it’s always nice.”
