On the main street of the Neve Ya'akov neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, many families pass every moment, the intersection of the roads between the dense residential neighborhoods and the schools and kindergartens and synagogues in the area make an entire section of the street busy, especially in the afternoon.
It's almost hard to imagine for an outsider, how just a year ago the biggest terrorist attack in the last 15 years - until the events of October 7th - was launched.
Alkam Khairi, 21 years old from Shuafat, left with his car on Friday evening.
Moments before he reached the main street of Neve Ya'akov, he managed to upload a video to Tiktok in which he confessed his actions and went on a killing spree: for many minutes he slaughtered passers-by near the synagogue, those who tried to escape - and those who came to the aid of the wounded.
Seven were murdered on the spot and three were injured - including a 14-year-old boy, the collector of the nearby synagogue and a couple who went out to rescue the wounded.

From the scene of the attack at the time, Shalom Borchov, told how he saw the terrorist shooting people in the street: "We came home from Shabbat dinner and I saw the terrorist shooting close to the synagogue. We entered the nearest building and I saw the whole situation before my eyes."
When the terrorist returned to the car, he tried to escape - and Shalom took a large stone and threw it at him: "I tried to hit him with what I could, it only hit the side of the car."

The first paramedic to arrive at the scene is Paddy Dekidek, one of the veterans in the area, who completed 20 years at the MDA this year. Paddy was on his way home from his shift when he heard a lot of gunfire and reported an unusual incident: "We immediately realized that it didn't sound like all the weddings and events in the area - there is something different here ". Paddy testifies that in all the decades he has been in the medical forces - in his life he has never come across such a scene. There are always memories of the murder scene, you can never forget what happened that Friday night.
Every time I park the car there I go back to that day.
The feeling is fear that something like this could happen again." "The street is the same street - but the atmosphere is completely different," Paddy tries to illustrate the feeling every time he passes by the arena, "the trees, the asphalt, the street, everything is the same.
