In several cities in Rhineland-Palatinate, thousands again took to the streets against right-wing extremism, hatred and incitement.

Significantly more people came to some demonstrations than expected.

Kaiserslautern/Worms/Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler - Tens of thousands of people took a stand against right-wing extremism at rallies in Rhineland-Palatinate over the weekend.

An estimated 10,000 people took part in a gathering on Sunday afternoon in Trier on the theme “Never again is now.

We are confronting the advance of the AfD,” as the police announced in the evening.

Due to the large number of participants, which was far greater than those expected by those responsible, the planned procession through Trier city center had to be canceled.

“The police are satisfied with the peaceful course of the event, especially given the high number of participants,” it said.

According to police estimates, around 4,500 people followed the call for “SolidAHRity for our democracy!” in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler on Sunday - significantly more than the organizers expected.

Anti-right-wing demonstrations were also announced for Sunday in other cities across the country.

Already on Saturday, thousands of people in Rhineland-Palatinate, as in other federal states, demonstrated against hatred and incitement.

According to police, around 6,000 people came to the largest demonstration in the country in Kaiserslautern on Saturday under the motto “Never again is now”.

According to the police, around 4,000 people gathered in Worms on Saturday under the motto “All together against the AfD”.

By Saturday afternoon, the police counted around 2,000 demonstrators in Frankenthal, around 2,500 people gathered in Neustadt/Weinstrasse and around 1,200 in Bingen.

In Zweibrücken, the police spoke of around 600 demonstrators.

There was a small counter-demonstration nearby, but there was no violence, a police spokesman reported.

The protests were triggered, among other things, by revelations by the Correctiv research center about a meeting of radical right-wingers in Potsdam, in which some AfD politicians as well as individual members of the CDU and the very conservative Values Union took part.

The former head of the right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement in Austria, Martin Sellner, said he spoke about “remigration” at the meeting.

When right-wing extremists use the term, they usually mean that large numbers of people of foreign origin should leave the country - even under duress.
