At the start of 2024, Paris experienced an episode of extreme cold with the appearance of its first snow on January 8.
Temperatures then dropped below 0°C.
With a warm spell now in the capital, the Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of Heritage, History and Paris Cults, Karen Taieb, announced on X (formerly Twitter), that the Parisian fountains had gone into wintering mode .
“Like every year, Parisian fountains are put into winter storage.
The episodes of extreme cold which caused the appearance of stalactites did not damage the works.
They will be replenished with water in the spring,” assured the Parisian elected official, adding: “[The fountains] of the Place de la Concorde as well.

Last December, Eau de Paris, the capital's drinking water manager, explained that it had delayed this wintering of the fountains "because of the particularly mild temperatures".
Despite the drop in temperatures in recent weeks, they had until then remained active.
This wintering is not valid for all the fountains: 280 of them “will nevertheless remain open throughout this winter”, specifies Eau de Paris.
Access to water remains 1,000 partner businesses of the Parisian company which offer water points to fill local residents' water bottles.
These remain accessible throughout the winter and can be found on this map.
