The AWO senior center in Penzberg starts day care on February 1st.

There is space for a maximum of twelve guests per day.

This was announced by the AWO Munich City Association, which runs the senior center on Gartenstrasse.

The first two additional apartments are also available for assisted living.

Penzberg - Starting tomorrow, Thursday, the AWO senior center on Gartenstrasse will be offering day care, an offer that does not yet exist in Penzberg and which is an express wish of the city of Penzberg to the operator.

At the end of last year, Hans Kopp, managing director of AWO Munich-City, mentioned February 1st as a possible day care start date - if there are enough staff by then (we reported).

It worked.

Two specialists are available.

Day care: There is space for up to twelve guests per day

The new day care is located on the third floor of the main building, accessible via its own elevator.

There is space for up to twelve guests every day who visit the day care from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and then return home.

Facility manager Christian Schulz estimates that individual guests will use the day care on average two or three days a week, which means that over a month there will be around 30 to 40 guests.

Day care, he explains, can be booked on a daily or weekly basis, which depends on the level of care and the guest's additional payment.

“Relieve the burden on caring relatives”

The aim of day care is to “relieve the burden on the caring relatives and bring variety into the daily routine of those in need of care,” said the AWO Munich-City district association in its statement.

The focus is on individual well-being.

According to the operator, in the future a “multi-professional team” of nursing staff, care assistants and nursing assistants will accompany, support and activate the guests.

These would be looked after individually, in groups or individually, depending on their personality and clinical picture.

According to the operator, the costs for a day's stay are between 98 and 127 euros, depending on the level of care.

There are also costs for a transport service.

According to AWO Munich-City, there are still day care places available in the Penzberg senior center.

Two of twelve additional apartments for assisted living

From February 1st, two new one-room apartments will also be available for assisted living.

As reported, managing director Kopp had actually announced twelve new, smaller apartments - in addition to the existing ten apartments in the new building.

When asked, facility manager Schulz explained that ten of the twelve rooms in the existing building - the transverse building - are currently still occupied by staff.

However, if employees find an apartment somewhere else, for example through the allocation of the city's rental apartments in the new development area west of Birkenstrasse ("An den Eichen"), the rooms could be used for assisted living.

According to him, it is also possible to use them for care.

“The rooms are suitable for everything,” says Schulz.

Basic rent at around 540 euros for the apartment

According to AWO Munich-City, the basic rent for the approximately 35 square meter one-room apartments with barrier-free bathrooms and mini kitchens is around 540 euros.

In addition, there is a care allowance of 110 euros.

With assisted living, according to the senior center operator, you can continue to run your own household independently and self-determined, combined with the support of the senior center, which, for example, provides external and internal services.

According to facility manager Schulz, 90 men and women are currently being cared for in the AWO senior center, slightly more than a year ago.

This is due to the fact that additional nursing staff could be recruited.
