O l af Scholz has launched a campaign with its European partners to increase their military support for Ukraine, without appearing to be the leader of such an initiative.
It is this delicate equation that the German Chancellor will have to resolve in Brussels around the Council table.
Germany promises to
“do everything”

but
“it cannot depend entirely”
on Berlin, he repeated on Wednesday during a debate in the Bundestag.
In the morning, he co-signed an article in the
Financial Times,
with his Danish, Czech, Estonian and Dutch counterparts, to invite the EU to
“redouble its efforts”,
particularly in the delivery of munitions.
Finally, in an interview with
Die Zeit
last Friday, he referred to his social-democrat mentor, Helmut Schmidt, to remind us that his country was only a
“middle power”.
